This course is designed for students from abroad, especially participants coming to Athens within the Erasmus and CIVIS programmes.

It is meant as an introduction to Armenian history with a special focus on Ottoman Armenians or Western Armenians.

Central concepts of this course are Ancient times and self-identification, sovereignty and loss of sovereignty, coexistence, and submission within an Islamic empire, deterritorialization, decentralization, genocide, survival, invisibility and diaspora.

Assessment will be based on the students’ regular participation and involvement, their regular reading of material uploaded on the e-class system and a final ten-page paper.
