COURSE DESCRIPTION  

Presentation of clinical cases and their discussion on the basis of physiological mechanisms. The student upon successful completion of the course will be able to recognize the clinical phenotype, the basic differential diagnosis and the underlying mechanisms of physiology that are disturbed in frequently occurring clinical cases.

 

THEMATIC SECTION 

Case 1: Neck injury from a swimming accident

Case 2: Intermittent vomiting

Case 3: High pressures at sea

Case 4: Breathing difficulties after an insect bite and air travel

Case 5: Infertility in an athlete

Case 6: Tight shoes and restless sleep

Case 7: Heartburn and swelling

Case 8: Dyspnea in smoker

Case 9: Chest pain and exercise

Case 10: Fatigue

Case 11: Sharp object chest injury

Case 12: I turned yellow

Case 13: Four weeks at high altitude

Case 14: Two cases of chronic fatigue

Case 15: Painful knee of a soccer player

Case 16: Marathon in tropical countries

Case 17: Crushing trauma and blood loss

Case 18: Weakness, increased blood pressure and ecchymosis

 

METHODS OF   EVALUATION & GRADING POLICY

The course is assessed by written multiple choice questions (MCQs) at the end of semester.

For a course to be considered completed, a grade of five (5) out of ten (10) or higher is required.  The pass mark for this course is an overall mark 15 out of 30 MCQs.   

 

ATTENDANCE POLICY

4th semester students

For students to be able to undertake the exam, they are allowed to miss 20% of the course’s lectures, only 6 teaching hours/3 lectures.

6th semester students

For students to be able to undertake the exam, they are allowed to miss 30% of the course’s lectures, only 8 teaching hours/4 lectures.

For all students

If students fail the exam in the corresponding examination period (in June), they are allowed to resit during the following September examination period. If students fail to pass the exam during this period, they are obliged to undertake the course again
