EPISTEMOLOGY, HISTORY AND ETHICS OF MEDICINE

The course "Epistemology, History and Ethics of medicine" integrates history, philosophy, sociology, religion and ethics (medical humanities) in the teaching of medicine.

The overall objective of the course is to introduce students to the evolution of medical thought and science over time and to highlight the way in which scientific developments have influenced not only medicine but also culture, shaping social ethics over time.

After the successful completion of the course the students will be able to recognize the milestones and the main contributors in the historical evolution of medicine. 

Moreover, they will realize the epistemological concepts and they will be able to connect philosophy with medicine, to deal successfully with ethical issues and misconceptions in medicine and to practice medicine according to humanitarian standards and rules of ethics.

Lectures are held two times per week:

Monday, 14.00-16.00

Friday, 12.00-14.00

The presence of the students during the lectures is essential.

During the semester 3 absences are permitted
