MEDICAL AND SURGICAL MANAGEMENT OF ENDOCRINE AND ENDOCRINE-RELATED TUMORS

As you may know this is a new elective course that is being organized by the Second Department of Internal Medicine Propaedeutic, and the Third Department of Surgery,in order to address medical students from both the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, as well as students from the collaborating foreign Universities ERASMUS+ / CIVIS program.
Our aim is for the students to become familiar with clinical diagnosis, investigations and work -up of patients with endocrine and endocrine related tumors, in order to establish the diagnosis. In addition, we aim to familiarize students with rare diseases in the field, in order to cultivate clinical suspicion and to be able to establish timely diagnosis of these patients as well. Finally, students will be trained in skill development necessary for interdisciplinary collaboration and decision-making.
The course is going to take place on Thursdays between 15:30 and 17:00 at Attikon University Hospital, with the exception of the first two Thursdays. The program will be finalized and you will receive with the beginning of the course. Due to possible difficulties in transit especially for foreign students, care will be taken for additional live broadcast of the lectures.
The possibility of participation in endocrine surgery procedures and endocrinology outpatient clinics will be given and is greatly encouraged.
At the end of this elective course students will be able to:
- Diagnose endocrine and endocrine-related disease through appreciation of clinical symptoms, radiological and biochemical investigations.
- Define and understand basic therapeutic management options.
- Realize benefits and restrictions of surgical treatment
- Understand the necessity of multidisciplinary approach for these patients
Students of the 8th, 10th and 11th semester will be eligible for application.
