This elective course is being carried out for the fourth year, as last year it has been completed with great success; it concerns a modern and rapidly evolving field of Medical Science, as a combination of increased demand and advanced knowledge and technology in the approach and treatment of infertility and techniques of assistance to Human Reproduction. The content and type of education through this course are a necessity in enriching the knowledge of a modern young Doctor.

The educational goals of the undergraduate studies of the Medical School, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, such as medical knowledge, patient care, professionalism and communication skills of students, are directly related to this course. Thus, through the teaching of the course "Reproductive Medicine - Assisted Reproduction Technology", the future Doctor will have the opportunity to become familiar with the anatomy, physiology and function of the female and male reproductive system and the “challenge” of infertility and most importantly will have the opportunity to learn its medical management, through its training in the stages of investigation and diagnosis, in the proper counseling of the patients, in order to select the most appropriate medical approach, respecting the needs, the expectations, the socio-economic situation, but also the family and religious beliefs of the infertile couple. In addition, the trainee will be able to thoroughly understand the patient 's medical assistance protocols that extend from medication and / or intervention to resolve any pathological conditions, using minimally invasive surgical methods, such as hysteroscopy and laparoscopy, intrauterine insemination, oocyte retrieval after or without ovarian stimulation and in vitro fertilization, while from a laboratory point of view he will have the opportunity to learn the techniques of receiving and processing gametes, fertilization of eggs through conventional in vitro fertilization or micro-fertilization, but also embryos up to the stage of embryo transfer. In addition, he will be given the basic principles and techniques related to the surgical treatment of common pathological conditions, such as endometriosis, fibroids and polyps, or ovarian cysts and endometrial adhesions associated with infertility.
