This module covers the regulation of diplomatic and consular relations under public international law. It provides students with a thorough analysis of the sources and content of diplomatic and consular law, focusing on the practice and literature in applying the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.

 

Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

• understand the historical background and normative foundations of diplomatic and consular law

• analytically assess the core issues and latest developments in diplomatic and consular law

• appreciate the role of diplomats and consuls in international affairs

• identify the role of general international law rules and principles in diplomatic bilateral and multilateral diplomatic relations
