Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

This course is offered to both ERASMUS students as well as undergraduate students of the NKUA Law School:

The oceans are critical to States’ interests and to human prosperity, being a highway for communication (and commerce), a shared resource, and a conduit for threats to security. They cover 70% of the earth’s surface, account for 90% of the world’s international trade and provide 40% of the protein consumed in the developing world. In this context, the law of the sea is assuming a new prominence in international affairs, from questions of maritime delimitation and freedom of navigation in troubled areas of world (Red Sea, Straits of Hormuz), to environmental protection and offshore resource exploitation, reversal of climate change and conservation and sustainable use of fisheries and marine biodiversity and protection of human rights at sea. This course will approach the law of the sea in the context of these developments and concerns, focusing upon: the history of the law of the sea; coastal state jurisdiction; freedom of navigation and passage; the high seas regime (including piracy, migration, maritime security and enforcement activities); fisheries; protection of the marine environment and marine biodiversity; human rights at sea; and dispute settlement, including maritime delimitation. 

 

Το εν λόγω προπτυχιακό μάθημα, προσφερεται σε αλλοδαπούς φοιτητές του προγράμματος ERASMUS καθώς και σε προπτυχιακούς φοιτητές της Νομικής Σχολής ΕΚΠΑ ως μάθημα ελεύθερης επιλογής (ΕΕ). Η διδασκαλία του μαθήματος είναι στην αγγλική γλώσσα.
