At the end of the course, students will be required to complete an individual assignment in subtitling. The deadline will be 8th of June.

 

The goal of this class is to introduce students to audiovisual translation, and more specifically interlingual subtitling. During the course of the semester, students will receive theoretical classes and they will delve into the practical application of said theory. They will be taught the difficulties and special characteristics that can be found in this translation genre, they will learn how to solve issues that arise, they will get in contact with various audiovisual texts that they will have to subtitle. Students will learn how to effectively use subtitling software, to handle time-space limitations and to timecode based on the theory. Theory of humour, sexuality, vulgar language and strong audiovisual content will be topics discussed extensively during the classes.
