This course explores the bold transformations of postwar British theatre, from kitchen sink realism to in-yer-face theatre, political and postcolonial theatre. We’ll examine how theatre practitioners challenged tradition, reshaped performance spaces, and pushed artistic boundaries to reflect a changing society. Through critical analysis and discussion, students will engage with the dynamic interplay between the mainstream and the subversive, the national and the fringe—rethinking what theatre can be.
