Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

The course studies the tradition and development of American poetry from the 17th to the 21st century, examining its major phases from Puritanism to Postmodernism. It aims to offer a detailed and comparative analysis of the work of important American poets who shaped the culture of their time by expressing a distinctive American national voice. Attention will be paid to the political and social developments that led to the formation and continuous reformation of literary trends in the US. Alongside important historical, cultural and intellectual contexts, through close readings of primary texts, emphasis will be placed on the elements of informed critical analysis and on essential topics in literary studies.
