The Challenges of the Educational Manager_Workshop for Teaching Practicum 1
(ENL575) - Γιώργος Δρίβας
Περιγραφή Μαθήματος
It is common practice in educational institutions to assign the role of educational manager to head teachers or senior educational staff. Selection is based on their academic performance despite the apparent lack of formal managerial training. Recently, new courses are offered for the training of managers within the area of education. How relevant or applicable are lessons learnt from other business areas to the role of manager in education?
For instance, what are the differences between an educational leader and an educational manager? What is the role of stakeholders in the educational institution? In a fast-changing world, how is education influenced by new demands, opportunities, constraints, and influences?
How can educators expand and develop their professional skills to be more effective in the role of educational leader? How far can they employ (inter)personal perspectives to affect school management? What is the degree that personal qualities, such as: self-assertiveness and self-management and communication patterns do/can/should affect their performance?
What are the relevant leadership demands, styles, and practices? How relevant are the issues of Organising Meetings: in particular, procedures, traditions, and visibility; of Leading Teams: more specifically, power and authority, conflict and negotiation; and of Managing Time: regarding teacher stress and teacher attitudes, behaviors and work patterns?
