This module is designed to introduce students to major English and American literary works of the 19^th and 20^th centuries that explore the theme of madness, with a particular focus on the narratological and stylistic techniques used to represent the “discourse of madness”, the practices of exclusion and marginalization suffered by the “mad” as well as the experience of psychiatric intervention.
