  • Welcome to the workshop “Teaching the 21st century learner- Integrating soft skills in ELT”!

To start with, let’s take a look at the structure of our course.

In this first week of the course, we are discussing the changes that the current century has brought to societies and, consequently, to education. In addition, we will see how these have affected the identity of the learner, namely our students.

In week 2, we will critically study a number of frameworks proposed by educational and other institutions with regards to the skills and competencies that students are expected to develop under the circumstances of the 21st century.

In the third week of the seminar, we will talk about us, the teachers. How has our role changed or should change? What are the new expectations?

Finally, we will put the theory discussed into practice, studying examples of teaching and learning practices that can fit into the context discussed, aiming at the development of 21st century skills.

    Things you need to remember!

Every week and until Monday evening, material will be uploaded on https://eclass.uoa.gr/courses/ENL494/. Please read the document bearing the tile of each week. This will help you understand the content better. References and extra material, for those of you who wish to study the topics better, will, also, be included. If you come across material that you believe is related to our seminar content and objectives, please feel free to share it. We learn better together!

A task sheet will, also, be uploaded every week. This task refers to a structured record of the personal conclusions you have reached after studying the information available. The completion of the task sheets will not count toward your final grade. It is suggested, however, that you use them to organise the information presented in each class. This will help you a lot at the time of the final assignment.  Task sheets will be uploaded both in pdf and doc form for your convenience.

At the end of the four weeks of the seminar, you will be given a final assignment which will be graded. You will have about one week to work on it.

I hope that you enjoy the workshop, and that you find it interesting and useful!
