Oscar Wilde: Aestheticism and its Legacies in the Literary and Theoretical Thought of the 20th century

(ENL459) -  EMMANOUIL ARETOULAKIS

Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

The course will concentrate on the study of the most important critical and theoretical works written by Oscar Wilde, familiarizing students with the basic principles of Wilde's aestheticism in Britain at the end of the 19th century, and the ways those principles affected various theoretical and other schools of literary criticism in the 20th century. As case study, one or two of his literary works will be studied alongside his critical works.

The course will be a combination of lectures and seminars. Evaluation is generally based upon the students' overall performance, regular attendance, active participation, midterm,  written assignments, and final exam.
