e-workshop: Writing in the EFL classroom (Designing, Teaching and Assessing)

(Workshop ) -  Offered by Dr. Vasso Oikonomidou (@TEFL Practicum)

Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

The aim of this e-workshop is to familiarize students with writing task design, teaching and assessment in the EFL classroom. Since EFL writing has been considered a difficult and challenging process, it is important that we teach it effectively so as to help our learners overcome any difficulties they face. The workshop consists of the following four modules: 1) CEFR descriptors for writing, 2) Writing task design, 3) Assessing writing, 4) Teaching writing with the use of ICT. Through the workshop participants will be exposed to different types of writing tasks and they will analyze them considering CEFR descriptors. Also, they will be provided with guidelines so as to design effective and fair EFL writing tasks in alignment with CEFR. Given the importance of fair writing assessment, participants will practise evaluating scripts that Greek learners of English have produced, through the application of different scoring rubrics. Finally, they will be exposed to a variety of web 2.0 tools for the teaching of writing with the use of ICT.

Participants will be evaluated on the basis of (a) weekly assignments, and (b) the quality of a larger project.
