Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

The course is designed to provide students with the basic knowledge of corpus linguistics that will enable them to analyse and interpret language data in written or orthographically transcribed form for their own research purposes while raising their awareness of how corpus evidence can be used in order to develop a better understanding of the different forms and functions of the English language. To this end, students are first introduced to the theoretical principles underlying corpus linguistics and the existing methods of exploring language use in authentic context. Following that, students are presented with a range of available corpus resources such as different types of online corpora and tools available for analysing corpus-based data. Through problem-based tasks, students are given the opportunity to explore online resources and evaluate their usefulness for linguistic analysis alongside using corpus data in more applied contexts.
