The aim of this course is to provide students with an overview of the field of speech and language disorders. Issues covered will include a comparison of the linguistic properties of typical and atypical language development, the causes, nature and manifestation of speech and language disorders (such as stuttering, voice and articulation disorders, aphasia, Speech and Language Impairment, and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), the ways the ability to communicate can be distrupted across the life span, and multilingual issues as applied in the field.
