Περιγραφή Μαθήματος
The course deals with English and American plays of the 20th century within a historical and social perspective. Its primary aim is to familiarize students with the dramatic conventions of different movements like realism, expressionism, the theatre of the absurd. The special nature of the literary genre is discussed alongside a study of the correspondence and interrelation between drama as written text and the actual practice of theatre. In addition, the course introduces students to critical concepts and techniques used in approaching, interpreting and analyzing dramatic literature through close reading of a small number of monumental cases of modern drama.
Students are encouraged to participate actively in class discussions. Finally, students are advised to keep themselves informed about additional material distributed by the instructor.
