THE ROMAN EMPIRE: HISTORY AND LITERATURE (Literature Section)
(BAAG157) - Sophia Papaioannou
Περιγραφή Μαθήματος
Augustus’ victory over the other forces in the Mediterranean in 31 BCE allowed him to retain the features of the old Roman Republic except with himself at the top as a non-elected official with immense powers. This new role continued with his successors for 500 years. Through the study of Roman literature, we shall study Roman imperialism, politics, war; women and freedmen in the Roman empire; Roman architecture; ethnography; the conflict of religions (including the wars with Judaea).
