75818 GREEK LITERATURE OF THE HELLENISTIC AND THE IMPERIAL PERIOD (Seminar): Poetry in the Hellenistic and the Imperial period (Fall semester 2024-2025)

(BAAG146) -  Στέφανος Ματθαίος

Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

The seminar is part of a series of advanced elective courses offered to the students in the final year of undergraduate program. This is an advanced Greek literature seminar exploring the two later eras of ancient Greek literature, the literature of the Hellenistic and Imperial period. The two eras spread across a period of nearly eight centuries, from the late 4th c. BCE to the 4th c. CE – and even later for some scholars.

Focusing on poetry, the central learning goal of this seminar is to offer an in-depth exploration of the rich literary production of the Hellenistic and Imperial periods, examining the main poets and literary genres during these eras. Additionally, the students will be instructed how to work independently on special research topics drawn from the subjects analysed in the course, and compose substantial research papers.
