Short presentation: The aim of the course is to familiarize the students with the language, the main themes and the most important methodological problems posed of the work of Herodotus through the study of selected papssages of the Histories. Class time will be used mainly for the study of the selected passages. Sufficient time will be devoted to short presentations by the teacher on key topics of the research of Herodotus' work, such as Herodotus' predecessors, Herodotus as a historian, the way of composing his history, his basic concepts of the divine and the human, causality and otherness in the work of Herodotus etc.
The course will be assessed through a two hour written exam at the end of the semester.
