Hellenistic Art 75601, Thursday 12:00-15:00, room 745A, Main Building.

 

After an introductory lecture on important historical events and the written sources of the Hellenistic period, lectures will cover an overview on sculpture, public and private architecture, urban planning and the so-called 'minor arts' that flourished between the 4th century BC and the 1st c AD in the Hellenistic world. Lectures will take place in the classroom and in museums. A one-day excursion to a Hellenistic site will be organized in the spring. The assessment is based on oral presentations-discussions on assigned scholarly articles, a mid-term exam in April and a final exam in June. The trip to Macedonia (Dion, Pella, Vergina) is scheduled for early May.
