Temple architecture of the Greek archaic period

(ARCH1250) -  Χρύσανθος Κανελλόπουλος

Περιγραφή Μαθήματος

The seminar explores the archaic temple architecture of Greece and the phenomena of standardization of orders, experimentation and – in around year 500 B.C.- the ‘enthusiasm’ of the temple builders. The evolution of proportions, types of plans and morphology is documented in both the key monuments and less known temples that were published lately. The archaic temples are approached less as parts of a uniform system and are instead examined as independent expressions of local schools that are not always headed for regularity.
