Advancing Open Science in Natural Hazard Research
Date: 3 November 2026
Time: 09:30–12:45 (Athens time, UTC+2)
Format: Online webinar
The HOMEROS Project invites you to participate in the online webinar “Advancing Open Science in Natural Hazard Research.”
The webinar aims to highlight the importance of Open Science and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles in natural-hazard research. Through presentations by researchers and experts, participants will learn about tools, infrastructures, datasets, and practical applications that support open, accessible, and reproducible research.
Programme and Speakers
- Zisis Simeoforidis (Infrastructure Expert – Software Developer, AUTH): How HEAL-Link Promotes Open Science in Greece: Tools, Seminars and Policies
- Angelos Zymvragakis (PhD candidate, Department of Geology and Geoenviroment, Section of Geophysics and Geothermics, NKUA): The FAIR Seismic Hazard Dataset of the Western Gulf of Corinth and Central Ionian Islands
- Vasilis Sakkas (Assistant Professor, Department of Geology and Geoenviroment, Section of Geophysics and Geothermics, NKUA): GNSS Satellite Geodetic Data for Ground Motion Monitoring in the Central Ionian Islands through the FAIR Infrastructure
- Ion-Anastasios Karolos (Assistant Professor, Department of Geodesy and Surveying, AUTH): How the EOSC EU Node Virtual Machines Service Can Enable a Reproducible Processing Environment for Geodetic Data
- Dr. Elena Papageorgiou (Department of Physical & Enviromental Geography, AUTH): A FAIR-Aligned Framework for Automated Satellite-Based Deformation Mapping and Rapid Earthquake Response
- Dr. Pavlos Bonatis (PostDoc Researcher at University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland): Applying FAIR Principles to Earth Observation Data: An InSAR Ground Deformation Case Study from the Central Ionian Islands (Greece)
- Stefania Andriopoulou (PhD candidate, Geomorphology, Department of Geology, UPAT): FAIR Hazard Dataset for Landslides and Floods in the Gulf of Corinth and Central Ionian Islands
- Dr. Parthena Paradisopoulou (Seismologist, Teaching Stuff, Department of Geology, AUTH): Teaching Machine-Learning Seismology with Open Notebooks and FAIR European Services
Registration and Participation Certificate
Certificates of participation will be provided to attendees
We look forward to welcoming you to the webinar and exchanging knowledge and experiences on Open Science and FAIR practices in natural-hazard research.
