Submission of final assignment and reading for Wednesday 15/1

Dear all,

Answer TWO of the following questions. Each answer should be between 1900 and 2100 words.

1. To what extent does scepticism undermine the main theories of truth? Which account of truth, in your view, is best equipped to withstand sceptical objections?

2. Compare at least two theories of epistemic justification in terms of their responses to Agrippa’s trilemma.
Is it more plausible to adopt one of the trilemma’s three strategies, or should we favor a position that aims to dissolve or transcend the trilemma altogether?

3. Between Enumerative Induction and Inference to the Best Explanation, which non-deductive inferential method do you find more compelling? Present in detail the arguments for your view.

4. Compare Gettier’s approach with Nozick’s definition of knowledge.

5. Is it worth the cost of accepting Lewis’ theory of possible worlds?

6. Assume that there are universals, and within that context assess the view that every particular is a bundle of universals.

Please submit your answers (in word format) up to, and including, Monday, February 9.

Next Wednesday 15/1 we 'll have our last seminar for the course -please read Bonjour's Epistemology: Classic problems and contemporary responses, ch. 5  (you 'll find it on eclass).

All the best,

AA
