One of the main issues in contemporary metaphysics of science is the one regarding the nature of properties. This masterclass will focus on a specific metaphysical account of properties’ nature which has recently gained increased popularity, the powerful qualities view. After setting the stage by presenting the core notions of the relevant debate (dispositions, powers, qualities, dispositional-categorical distinction), it will scrutinise the powerful qualities view by examining the central tenets and theoretical autonomy of the account, the motivating reasons for embracing it and, finally, its various versions.
