Methodology of Quantitative and Qualitative Social Research

Description

This course focuses on qualitative and quantitative research methods. In the qualitative part of the course, students will learn about qualitative data collection methods, such as in-depth interviews, focus groups and (non-)participant observation, as well as qualitative analysis methods like textual analysis, discourse analysis, critical discourse analysis, narrative analysis, thematic analysis).

In the quantitative part of the course, students will be introduced to the design and conduction of quantitative surveys and content analysis with the use of the SPSS-Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. This part includes the following topics: SPSS environment, data entry, data control and correction, data processing, statistical tests (chi-square, t-tests, ANOVA, correlation) and statistical inferences.
