Introduction to Palynology, palynological processing laboratory techniques, preservation of organic walled microfossils, the palynomorph concept, microscopy.

Dinoflagellates: biology, life cycle, morphology, Taxonomy. Organic walled dinoflagellate cysts, geographic distribution, ecology/paleoecology, biostratigraphy.

Green algae, aquatic systems palynomorphs.

Statistical analysis and interpretation of palynological assemblages, stratigraphic correlations, paleoenvironmental applications (salinity, temperature, paleodepth).

Palynophacies analysis and application to petroleum research: organic matter classification, thermal maturity, kerogene types.
